چکیده

ty.i・2) The retardation of membrane-bound AGH reaction3} andlor inhibition of passive glucose transport`) would successfully flatten the postprandial blood glucose excursions or reduce hyperglycemia. In our studies on AGH inhibition by food components,5,6) acylated anthocyanins were found to cause the benefit of suppression of glucose production from dietary carbohydrates. To date, many studies on the antioxidant,') antimutagenic,8) and antihypertensive effects9} of fiavonoids have been done. In addition, their alternative physiological function of suppression of glucose absorption at the small intestine has been also reported."ie) Among the flavonoids, tea polyphenols such as catechins have been found to inhibit AGH activity2) and glucose transport.`) These findings led us to make a further investigation of fiavonoids cornmonly present in plant and food products for any anti-hyperglycemic effect. In this paper, we have examined the in vitro and in vivo AGH inhibition abilities of naturally occurring flavonoids, i.e., luteolin and chrysin as flavones, kaempherol and galangin as fiavonols.

Metformin Hydrochloride Tablets

CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY Mechanism of Action Metformin is an antihyperglycemic agent which improves glucose tolerance in patients with type 2 diabetes, lowering both basal and postprandial plasma glucose. Its pharmacologic mechanisms of action are different from other classes of oral antihyperglycemic agents. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucos...

Aqueous Extract of Nypa fruticans Wurmb. Vinegar Alleviates Postprandial Hyperglycemia in Normoglycemic Rats †

Nypa fruticans Wurmb. vinegar, commonly known as nipa palm vinegar (NPV) has been used as a folklore medicine among the Malay community to treat diabetes. Early work has shown that aqueous extract (AE) of NPV exerts a potent antihyperglycemic effect. Thus, this study is conducted to evaluate the effect of AE on postprandial hyperglycemia in an attempt to understand its mechanism of antidiabetic...

Accelerating and improving the consistency of rapid-acting analog insulin absorption and action for both subcutaneous injection and continuous subcutaneous infusion using recombinant human hyaluronidase.

Rapid-acting insulin analogs were introduced to the market in the 1990s, and these products have improved treatment of diabetes by shortening the optimum delay time between injections and meals. Compared with regular human insulin, rapid-acting insulin formulations also reduce postprandial glycemic excursions while decreasing risk of hypoglycemia. However, the current prandial products are not ...

Antihyperglycaemic activity of Asparagus racemosus roots is partly mediated by inhibition of carbohydrate digestion and absorption, and enhancement of cellular insulin action.

Asparagus racemosus roots have been shown to enhance insulin secretion in perfused pancreas and isolated islets. The present study investigated the effects of ethanol extracts of A. racemosus roots on glucose homeostasis in diabetic rats, together with the effects on insulin action in 3T3 adipocytes. When administered orally together with glucose, A. racemosus extract improved glucose tolerance...

Non-starch polysaccharides extracted from seaweed can modulate intestinal absorption of glucose and insulin response in the pig.

We have investigated the possible effects of algal polysaccharides on postprandial blood glucose and insulin responses in an animal model, the pig. Three seaweed fibres of different viscosities, extracted from Palmaria palmata (PP), Eucheuma cottonii (EC), or Laminaria digitata (LD), were compared to purified cellulose (CEL). Blood glucose and plasma insulin levels were monitored and intestinal...
